Samui Regatta - JP Australia NP SUP Race Series
As an added attraction to the daily beach presentations. Samui Regatta, in conjunction with Neil Pryde and JP Australia, will run a series of SUP (Stand up paddleboard) races throughout the week to introduce competitors to the new range in inflatable SUP boards which are perfectly suited for yachts and crews.
The idea is to run SUP races each day straight off the beach in front of the regatta bar. With an emphasis on participation and fun, racers will be able to step straight off their boards and be handed a cold beer (or energy drink). The daily races will culminate in a grand final on the last day where some serious prizes will be on offer for the winners.
The race will consist of figure of eight loops around the two turning marks. The course length will be set to provide races of around 4 minutes long.
The start will be between a flag on the beach and one of the turning marks – racers will line up in the water. A Le Mans style beach start could also be considered. The finish line will be on the beach in-front of the stage area.
Each day a number of heats and a final with the winners progressing to the Grand Final to be held on Friday.
There may be separate ladies and men’s events, although they may race together.
The specific details of the heats, finals etc will need to be worked on once the likely participation levels and regatta programme are finalised.
All participants will be presented to a special events “rashie” shirts.
There will be a daily prize for the winners, plus a bigger prize for the winners of the Grand Finals.
Entry forms will be available at daily presentation parties and at registration.
